Dr Marcus Lo

Editor-in-Chief, HKSEMS

I still remember the day I received the baton from Dr. C. S. Leung as Editor-in-Chief of the HKSEMS Newsletter. The years since have been busy, challenging at times, but above all, meaningful.

We have continued refining our content to reflect current discussions, recent developments, and practical knowledge within the A&E community. We featured new courses, conferences and even events on news such as the Myanmar Earthquake and how the Society has contributed at individual or group level. In doing so, we have tried to stay aligned with the Society’s aims: supporting the practice of emergency medicine and strengthening connections among members.

Moving the Newsletter to the Society’s official website in 2022, during COVID, was another change that turned out to be helpful. It allowed our articles to reach more readers over time. Thanks to a combination of steady contributions and increased sharing on social media, website viewership has been gradually rising. As of November 2025, total sessions this year are up by 72% compared with last year.

The rapid emergence of artificial intelligence has pushed all of us to rethink how we work. Rather than ignoring it, we tried to understand where it could add real value. Our new Digital Cafe section developed with contributors from the Digital EM Subcommittee of our partner organization, HKCEM, is one small step in that direction.

I step down with appreciation for everyone who contributed along the way. I wish my successor a smooth and fulfilling term ahead.
