Welcome to the official website of the Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery (HKSEMS)!
Emergency Medicine (EM) is a very unique specialty. Its scope of practice encompasses pre-hospital and in-hospital patient management. As a result, collaborations and endeavors among EM physicians, EM nurses and paramedics are vital to the development of EM.
HKSEMS was established in 1985 by our enthusiastic EM predecessors. Since then, HKSEMS undertook the role of EM training. We introduced several internationally recognized courses such as the first Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support in Hong Kong in 1992 and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course. Apart from education, we were dedicated to meeting the needs of our members and building connection among our members as well as with regional and oversea EM counterparts. We successfully hosted the Asian Conference on Emergency Medicine in 2004, and of course in 2021 by the time you read this, and Hong Kong-Shenzhen Emergency Conference in 2009, 2013 and 2017.

OUR DEVELOPMENT
Closely linked to the development of emergency medicine in Hong Kong
The development of HKSEMS was closely linked to the development of emergency medicine in Hong Kong. After the first A&E consultant was appointed in 1981, a group of dedicated A&E doctors formed the Society in 1985.
Thereafter, we organized various training activities, published series of A&E reference manuals and the Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine. With these the specialty status of emergency medicine is established in Hong Kong after 13 years of hard work.
