PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS
Dear Members and Friends of the Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery(HKSEMS),
In 2025, we proudly celebrated our 40th anniversary—four decades of unwavering dedication to advancing Emergency Medicine in Hong Kong. Since our founding in 1985, we have grown alongside the development of emergency care in Hong Kong and we remain deeply committed to passing this legacy forward to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Guided by our founding mission, HKSEMS works tirelessly to promote keen interest in Emergency Medicine among our members and medical profession in Hong Kong, inspiring passion, innovation, and excellence in this vital and dynamic field. We also foster stronger bonds among members by organizing various social functions and professional activities that nurture community, collaboration, and shared growth. In addition, we maintain close liaison with partner organizations in the Greater Bay Area and around the world, exchanging knowledge and best practices to drive ongoing advancement in emergency medicine on a global scale.
Recently, we are especially delighted to have achieved charitable organization status, reinforcing our focus on public benefit ;we pledge to serve the community wholeheartedly and educating the public on emergency medicine knowledge and skills. Going forward, we will continue to advocate for and spread awareness of bystander CPR, to boost survival rates for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, aiming to empower every citizen to become a potential lifesaver.
As we step into the future, HKSEMS looks ahead with optimism and resolve. We are eager to continue walking hand in hand with the community, expanding our outreach, advocacy, and educational efforts to make emergency care stronger, more accessible, and more impactful for all in Hong Kong.
Thank you for your support. Together, we will carry forward our 40-year tradition of excellence and compassion for many years to come.

OUR DEVELOPMENT
Closely linked to the development of emergency medicine in Hong Kong
The development of HKSEMS was closely linked to the development of emergency medicine in Hong Kong. After the first A&E consultant was appointed in 1981, a group of dedicated A&E doctors formed the Society in 1985.
Thereafter, we organized various training activities, published series of A&E reference manuals and the Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine. With these the specialty status of emergency medicine is established in Hong Kong after 13 years of hard work.
