Dear Members and Friends,
In 2025, we proudly celebrated a remarkable milestone—our 40th anniversary—marking four decades of unwavering dedication to advancing Emergency Medicine in Hong Kong. Since our establishment in 1985, the Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery (HKSEMS) has grown hand in hand with the development of emergency care in our city. This journey, defined by commitment, innovation, and compassion, continues to inspire us as we pass the torch to the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Guided by our founding mission, HKSEMS remains steadfast in promoting a deep and enduring interest in Emergency Medicine among our members and the wider medical community. We strive to cultivate passion, innovation, and excellence in this vital and ever-evolving field. Beyond professional advancement, we also take pride in fostering stronger bonds within our membership—organizing social gatherings, academic activities, and collaborative initiatives that nurture unity, collegiality, and shared growth.
On the international front, HKSEMS continues to maintain close partnerships with organizations in the Greater Bay Area and around the world. Through academic exchange and collaboration, we aim to broaden perspectives, share best practices, and contribute meaningfully to the global advancement of emergency medicine.
In recent months, we have reached an important new chapter in our development—HKSEMS has officially attained charitable organization status. This achievement reinforces our commitment to serving the public good. We pledge to dedicate our efforts wholeheartedly to community service, particularly in enhancing public education on emergency care knowledge and life-saving skills. One of our key focuses will continue to be the advocacy of bystander CPR, empowering more citizens with the confidence and ability to save lives and improving survival outcomes from out-of-hospital cardiac arrests.
As we look toward the future, we do so with optimism and purpose. Together, we will continue to expand our outreach, education, and advocacy efforts—strengthening emergency care to be more accessible, effective, and impactful for everyone in Hong Kong.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. With your commitment and enthusiasm, I am confident that HKSEMS will continue to build upon our 40-year legacy of excellence and compassion—serving our profession, our patients, and our community for many years to come.
Warm regards,
Dr Wendy Cheng
President,
