Dr. Gordon Wu

The Hong Kong Society for Emergency Medicine and Surgery (HKSEMS) 40th Anniversary Funfair and First Aid Challenge Competition was successfully held on 21 sep 2025 in Hollywood Plaza, marking a memorable milestone in the Society’s four decades of dedication to advancing emergency medicine and promoting public awareness of first aid. The event attracted an enthusiastic turnout, creating a vibrant and engaging atmosphere throughout the day.

The programme featured an array of performances and educational activities designed to engage participants of all ages. Highlighting the event were insightful sharing sessions by Dr. Wong Tai Wai and Dr. Siu Yuet Chung, who offered professional perspectives on the development and practice of emergency medicine. Interactive booths allowed visitors to learn essential life-saving skills—such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of emergency equipment, and principles of emergency triage—through practical demonstrations and hands-on experience. Families also had the opportunity to take part in themed photo sessions, capturing memorable moments as “emergency physicians” in action.

A key highlight of the day was the Inter-school First Aid Competition, in which participating secondary school teams demonstrated outstanding knowledge, teamwork, and composure in simulated emergency scenarios. Following assessment by a panel of distinguished judges, the results were as follows:

Champion: Diocesan Girls’ School

1st Runner-up: CCC Methodist Secondary School

2nd Runner-up: St. Francis’ Canossian College

The Society extends its heartfelt congratulations to all winning teams for their commendable performances and dedication to promoting first aid awareness among youth.

HKSEMS also expresses sincere appreciation to the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, Government Flying Service, and St. John Ambulance for their invaluable support, as well as to all sponsors whose generous contributions ensured the success of the event.

Through this meaningful celebration, the Society aims to enhance public understanding of emergency medicine and to encourage every member of the community to acquire basic life-saving knowledge. With timely action and the right skills, anyone can make a difference — and become a hero in saving lives.
