Adaptability in Action
Emergency medicine stands at the absolute frontline, where we must constantly confront evolving challenges and act with decisive speed whenever disaster strikes or critical seconds count. In Hong Kong, our specialty thrives on this rapid adaptability—whether we are refining immediate clinical protocols or coordinating large-scale field responses, we must continuously fortify our readiness to lead under pressure.
First, Dr. Wendy Cheng addresses acute cardiac care, re-examining the decisive "golden 3–5 minutes" window. Shifting focus to the community, she explores how to bridge the gap between bystander anxiety and swift intervention. Dr. Cheng advocates for dismantling barriers by creating "Heart-Safe" environments, demystifying AED use, and expanding targeted education, emphasizing that building public confidence transforms ordinary citizens into vital partners in survival.
Shifting to disaster management, Dr. Wong Kwun Bun reflects on serving as a Medical Control Officer during the Tai Po Wang Fuk Court fire in November 2025. Managing over 100 casualties alongside the HA MICC, he illustrates how core field triage training seamlessly translates into practice.
Together, these articles underscore our readiness to lead at the bedside, in the community, and in the field.
